This is a remake of a story written by Director, Lina Wertmuller. It is thestory of Leroy Jones, played very capably by Richard Pryor. Pryor stealsthe show here as he plays Leroy, a migrant fruit picker, his grouchy oldfather and the local minister. It is the story of Leroy, and his accidentalrise to management. Leroy is manipulated by "the man", the president of theAgricultural conglomerate that employs Leroy and his friends. It does avery good job of showing just how one can be seduced by the appearance ofpower. Leroy loses everything that means anything to him in his rise tomanagement at the "company". The segments where Leroy interacts with his"father" are too funny for words. Pryor doesn't have a great range ofacting ability but what he does, he does the best.

Between 1975 and 1978,Richard Pryor was at the top of his creative gameandthis 1977 film was one of his best and one of his most underrated. In thisfilm,Pryor assumes three roles(a fruit picker turned corporate flunky, hisrandy father and a shady preacher).A must see for any pryor fan.I recentlysaw this film again on BET Movies and I laughed just as hard as I did onthefirst viewing in 1977.Check it out.

Pyror was genius! Seeing it again after 30+ years you have to reallyrespect what was necessary to produce this movie in 1970's climate! Also pleased to see Bebe Drake, Margaret Avery, Marilyn Coleman, and ofcourse Vonnetta McKee. Margaret and Vonnetta went on to have their ownsuccesses and I've always been proud of them but Bebe and Marilyn haveturned out to be character actresses for black womanhood! I love them! They may not have the same name recognition as some of the others butthey have truly endured through time! They are in so many differentroles and bring something different to them all. They were outstandingin WWIU but I look forward to seeing them wherever they turn up!
Richard Pryor is playing three different roles here. The first being a poor orange picker named Leroy Jones who gets laid off when by mistake he joins the worker's union during one of their demonstrations. Afterwards he is forced to leave his wife and family behind which also includes Leroy's father (also played by Pryor) to go to Los Angeles. Leroy ends up working for the same company that fired him back home. He is a manager at the company but he is now distant from his former pals. He meets and falls in love with Vanetta who is a labor organizer which leaves him splitting time between his wife Annie Mae and Vanetta. When Leroy finds out that the Reverend Lenox Thomas (also played by Pryor) has got his wife pregnant while he was absent, he then make the moves on the reverend's wife.
