The Reviews for The Bad Batch (2017) 1080p

Ever since I've watched "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)" thismovie has been on my radar. Ana Lily Amirpour is clearly one of themost interesting new directors out there and her next projects shouldbe anticipated. I'm glad to see big name actors like Keanu Reeves andJim Carrey in her movie, they play their parts brilliantly and willpull a bigger audience. Suki Waterhouse and Jason Mamoa are the maincharacters and keep you interested the whole way through, but the starof the show is director Ana Lily Amirpour. Her visuals and worldcreating are definitely the biggest pull of the movie.

This movie will probably be watched by the wrong audiences, because offamous actors in it. It's a visual art movie which can be enjoyed byanyone, but is definitely not mainstream. A lot of reviews I see aboutthe movie being to slow are clearly that mainstream voice. It's kind offunny that the people who love "slow" artsy movies have to get throughthe gory cannibalism and murder scenes. You can see how that can splitaudiences.

The style reminds me of Quentin Tarantino in the sense that theart-house and exploitation genre are combined a little. The bigdifference between Ana Lily Amirpour and Tarantino is that Tarantinocan catch that mainstream audience as well. If I knew more about whymovies are successful I could tell you why, but I can't help but feelthat it has something to do with the fact that this movie has a femaledirector. At least fans of good movies will make this a cult movie, butI really think it deserves more.

I cant wait for the next movie Ana Lily Amirpour makes.

(9/10) Would recommend.

Desert exile, a cult leader with an armed and pregnant harem androaming gangs of hungry cannibals, are only some of the worries forsolitary Arlen. She is very resourceful and open minded though. Shemanages to make her way on a gnawed leg, to a frontier settlement offree dealing outlaws. Arlen attempts to lay low in this town with anapparently abandoned little girl and her pet rabbit. With the cultleader showing interest in the pair and a burly cannibal searching forhis little girl, Arlen is faced with some difficult choices. There aretruths she needs to find for herself.

There are glimmers of Amirpour's amazing previous film, A Girl WalksHome Alone at Night, including funky music, fantastic light displays, beautiful people, charming spontaneity, skateboards, gorgeous hot pantsand grisly encounters. Keanu Reeves makes a delightful appearance asthe harem loving cult leader and Jim Carrey as an impulsive andsunburnt hermit. I wish there was more depth to the dialogue. Longpauses work better with excellent actors, and the stars of the film donot have this range yet. Seen at the 2016 Toronto International FilmFestival.

Hoo boy. This movie requires some effort. What starts off as a brutalexploitation flick, surely to weed out the meek, evolves into anabsorbing treatise on primal human conditions in a barren, desertedwasteland.

While Ana Lily Amipour's sophomore effort contains pulpy roots, littered with outrageous characters and circumstances, it also tacklessome grand topics. Our white trashy heroine Arlen is unceremoniouslyturfed out of society to fend for herself behind a Texan fence, wherelawlessness and depravity are the rule of the day. She is soon capturedby a tribe of cannibals, and mayhem ensues.

Dystopian futures as these don't seem all that far fetched any more."The Bad Batch" may serve as a warning, but chiefly it serves as dustyentertainment. Much like the "Mad Max" franchise, it is a world full ofcrazies scrambling to survive in glorious sunbaked vistas.

Sporting a primo porn stash, Keannu Reeves pops up as a bizarro, robeclad cult leader. Giovanni Ribisi slips in several rambling, asylumescapee diatribes, but it is an unrecognizable Jim Carrey whoabsolutely steals the movie as a wizened bag man.

"The Bad Batch" has the art junk, lost inhibition, drug and music orgyfeel of Burning Man, and because it's stealthily asking toughquestions, has much more going for it than the cheap veneer mayindicate.
