A solid film from director Fabrice Du Wetz (Allelula, Vinyan) at theToronto International Film Festival. In genre "revenge thriller" but Icompletely agree with Du Wetz at its core a character study and muchmore. Chadwick Boseman follows up his Black Panther introduction inCaptain America:Civil War with a nuanced and believable performance asan older brother seeking out his lost younger sister in a Los Angelesthat truly feels like a "Blade Runner" homage in its grittiness andtone. Teresa Palmer is outstanding as a complicated and pivotalassociate in his "message". High marks for all involved in thisinteresting and well scored film!

The story is nothing really special. Guy comes to LA to look for hissister and he gets tangled in the mess that she was in. He uses histough South African skills to punish people. Liam Neeson did it withgreat success, Chadwick Boseman does it too.
It was the acting that was pretty decent, though, as well as theportrait of the city as a corrupt place that feeds on hope and takes itall away. The "message from the king" is that you may have a lot ofmoney and live in a big rich place and still be just as rotten as themost crime ridden places in Africa.
Bottom line: a linear and predictable story that only highlighted thegood acting and subtle message on the background.

A simple story with a solid script with action and twists. When JacobKing from South Africa does not hear from his sister in America. Hedecides to visit and uncovers a pit of lies and betrayal.
I enjoyed this cracker. I knew, where the story was going and then thestory takes a side step. Which leaves you like mmmm OK and then yourback to where you thought the story was going.
Now my issues, the accent was too strong or low. Which stopped certainscenes from connecting. Also I'm not going to lie a car chase scene andsome one liners would have made it Fire. And the action needed moremulti angles (point of view shots). But this would add 1000s to budgetand editing time. Modern film making is control by numbers, like mostproducts today. So, I am not disappointed and I cant wait for thisteams next project.
Apart from that very good watch. Casting and performances were strong. If you like films like taken with a touch of born identity. Then thisis the Netflix title for you. One the best crime action dramas onNetflix today.
